tampa engineered flooringThe diversity of Engineered Flooring is one of its finest features. It is available in a wide range of widths, lengths, and depths, offering flexibility in placement for rooms of all sizes and shapes.
This type of wood flooring is available in most wood species, including exotic and domestic woods, providing many attractive options.

How Is Engineered Flooring Products Manufactured?

Engineered wood flooring is crafted from a combination of 3 to 12 multiple ply layers, depending on the style that is being constructed. The inner layers are made from a soft plywood or hardwood and topped with a thicker layer of hardwood that is firmly secured with flooring glue to the top surface of the inner core layers. This top layer is sometimes referred to as the “wear” layer.

Benefits of Engineered Flooring

Unlike solid wood flooring, engineered wood flooring can be glued directly onto concrete slabs as well as permanently secured to a wooden subfloor. It is more highly resistant to moisture than solid wood flooring, making it an ideal choice for homes that are prone to dampness, particularly in the basement, kitchen, and bathroom.
Standard styles of engineered wood flooring generally last at least twenty years if not longer. Thicker styles can last as long as forty to eighty years due to their ability to be refinished. The longevity of engineered wood flooring is determined by the style, the amount of wear and tear it sustains, and the level of upkeep it gets over the years. Some styles can easily be sanded and refinished to provide a “like-new” appearance.

Types of Cut Used in Engineered Wood Flooring

Two types of cut are used to produce distinctively different styles of engineered wood flooring. The sliced or sawn cut style involves a cutting action to remove the wood from a solid log. This piece is used to create the top layer of the engineered plank in order to produce what has the natural grain and texture of solid wood. The rotary cut involves a process that peels the wood from the log using a big lathe. The final result shows greater variation in wood grain than the sawn cut.

The Quality of Engineered Wood

Just as with any product that you purchase, the quality of your engineered flooring is contingent upon the manufacturing process and materials used. The cheapest product is going to deliver the least favorable results. Quality-made engineered wood flooring is going to deliver an attractive surface for many years.
